In the modern media landscape, media relations professionals have discovered the tried-and-true pitching techniques of yesterday no longer resonate with those working in today’s newsrooms.
One thing is clear: It is time to revamp our industry’s media relations strategies and efforts.
In this Shark Tank-esque pitching clinic, attendees will be divided into General Audience members and Pitchers. Pitchers will be individuals who volunteer to pitch their story in advance of the workshop. Registrants will be contacted a week prior to this event about signing up to volunteer to pitch.
The volunteer Pitchers will have approximately two minutes to make their pitch to the media representative at their table. Audience members will be encouraged to ask follow-up questions and tips from the members of the media. Every 10 minutes, each member of the media will rotate to a different table to allow attendees to get a variety of different perspectives.
Following the speed pitching sessions, the clinic will be capped off with each member of the media announcing their favorite pitch and why it caught their attention. Winners will receive a $25 Amazon gift card.
