Three PR Luminaries are Inducted into National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame
Washington, June 13, 2006 – The Public Relations Society of America’s National Capital Chapter inducted three of Washington’s most accomplished communications professionals into its prestigious Hall of Fame June 6 at The Georgetown Club. Joined by some of the industry’s most notable professionals, the annual awards ceremony devoted a commemorative night to its newest inductees:  Michael G. Carberry, president of CARMA International; Michael Deaver, vice chairman international at Edelman; and Beverly Jackson, former chief of public information at NIH’s National Institute on Drug Abuse. Honorees join the distinguished ranks of more than 60 public relations leaders who have made an impact and lasting contribution to the profession.

“These three PR professionals are the best representation of what our profession is all about,” said Charlie Brotman, PRSA Hall of Fame Member and MC for the event.  “They show us what the ‘good ole days” really mean.”

Tracy Schario, president of the National Capital Chapter of PRSA, added, “This year’s inductees remind us that the practice of public relations requires tenacity, creativity, and honesty, along with a commitment to enjoy your work so that results may follow. The chapter is honored to welcome these esteemed luminaries into the Hall of Fame. We also extend our appreciation to AARP, who helped underwrite this program and the chapter’s education initiatives.”

Michael G. Carberry is currently president of CARMA International, a global media analysis company, and began his career as an advertising manager of the U.S. Postal Service. Carberry has served as a founding partner of Porter, Novelli & Associates; and later, CEO of both Henry J. Kaufman & Associates and Earle Palmer Brown. Carberry is a retired Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and an adjunct professor at Georgetown and American universities.

Michael Deaver currently serves as vice chairman international at Edelman’s Washington office and has earned the reputation as one of the nation’s premier image-makers. Most notably, Deaver spent more than 20 years as one of Ronald Reagan’s closest advisors and is widely credited with structuring the Reagan communications program. Active in national and international politics, he regularly meets with dignitaries from around the world and is a New York Times best-selling author of three books.

Beverly Jackson is recognized for her exemplary career in communications at some of the finest Washington-based organizations:  Children’s Hospital, Smithsonian Institution, Wolf Trap, and the White House News Photographers Association.  She recently served as chief of public information at NIH’s National Institute on Drug Abuse where she managed public health campaigns on addiction.  She was president of Jackson/Summers Association and is a founder of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

The National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame was launched Oct. 1, 1999 in conjunction with the National Capital Chapter's 50th Anniversary celebration. Criteria for admission into the Hall of Fame include significant accomplishments in the field of public relations and the community and at least 20 years in the profession, with 10 of those years being in the Washington area.  Among this extraordinary group are civil rights leaders, White House and Capitol Hill press secretaries, Pentagon spokespersons, business leaders, government officials, international experts, social activists, labor leaders, professors and educators, attorneys, authors and speakers.

The National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is the largest PRSA chapter in the country.

The chapter provides high-quality and timely professional development programs, accreditation instruction, workshops and networking opportunities, as well as a mentorship program for its members, and supports five PRSSA chapters and the Career Academy at Anacostia High School.  For more information on the National Capital Chapter of PRSA and a complete list of the Board of Directors and National Assembly Delegates, please visit http://www.prsa-ncc.org.
