PadillaCRT Wins ‘Best of Show’ at 47th Annual Thoth Awards

Washington, D.C. – Sept. 16, 2015 – PadillaCRT was presented with the “Best in Show” award at the Public Relations Society of America National Capital Chapter’s (PRSA-NCC) 47th annual Thoth Awards gala. The Washington office of the national firm won for its campaign on behalf of the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council as more than 150 Washington public relations professionals convened at the National Press Club (NPC) tonight to celebrate this year’s top PR programs and products.

PRSA-NCC presented 31 Thoth Awards and Certificates of Excellence. An experienced panel of Thoth Awards judges selected the finalists, reviewing numerous entries from a wide-range of public relations firms and non-profit and corporate organizations located in the Washington, D.C. area.

“The Thoth Award winners honored tonight represent the gold standard in our business, not only in the national capital region, but throughout the nation,” said Mitch Marovitz, APR, president of PRSA-NCC. “PR campaigns designed and implemented by firms in our area often have national impact. Thoth recipients are outstanding professionals who make a positive difference for their clients, firms and organizations.”

Bloomberg First Word’s John Hughes, president of the National Press Club, gave the keynote address. “I was extremely grateful to be asked to speak to PRSA-NCC.” Hughes said. “I appreciated the opportunity to meet so many top-notch PR professionals and discuss their accomplishments and relationships with the press.”

The awards are named after Thoth (pronounced “tot”), an Egyptian god of wisdom who was a mediator and scribe, and credited as the inventor of communications and writing. In the spirit of Thoth, PRSA-NCC honors area PR professionals for their wisdom and contributions to the profession.

Attendees also witnessed the induction of Debra Silimeo, Robert Mathias and Don McLearn into the National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame. Silimeo is executive vice president of Hager Sharp. Mathias, Ogilvy Washington’s longtime president, is now North America CEO of Ogilvy Public Relations. McLearn, retired, had a 30-year career that included more than 17 years as deputy associate commissioner for public affairs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

“It was an honor to be a part of this special night for Debra, Robert and Don,” said Samantha Villegas, APR, past president of PRSA-NCC. “They each embody the essence of what we’re all striving to be—professionals who perform at the top of their game, day after day for an entire career. It was exciting to hear their remarks and to know that they were likely inspiring a young professional in the audience who may go on to receive this same award one day. That’s my hope, at least.”
