One of the latest happenings in our chapter includes the recent Membership Rally at Pepco Gallery in March. We had a great turnout and our chapter committees were all there to discuss their mission and objectives for the year with attendees. It was an exciting and fun event! Most of the committees had a larger number of signups this year, which indicates an interest in our various PRSA-NCC committees, including: Accreditation & Continuing Education, Association/Nonprofit, Communications, Diversity/Multicultural, Ethics & Advocacy, International, Independent Public Relations Alliance (IPRA), Jobline, Membership, Mentoring, New Professionals, Past Presidents Council, Pro Bono & Community Support, Professional Development, Public Affairs & Government, Sponsorship, Thoth Awards, University Relations, and Website Management.
If you didn’t get a chance to attend, send me a note at firstname.lastname@example.org about your interest area, and I’ll put you in touch with the chair or co-chair of the committee you’re interested in. Volunteering is one of the best ways to get involved in the chapters, and it’s a great way to expand your professional network!
Another recent happening was with the PRSA Board Chairperson, Jane Dvorak, who came to Washington, D.C. to meet with many of the PRSSA chapters in the area. She was excited to see all the public relations professors and students during her visit. For graduating young professionals who want to join PRSA-NCC, please contact the New Professionals Committee on the website to find out more about how to join. For more information on membership, contact Membership Chair Ashley Lee Morris.
During this month, be sure to attend the April 18th Professional Development event at the Navy Memorial titled Staging Events for Public Relations Campaigns. Public relations experts will be on hand to guide you and provide answers to your questions. Also on April 21, the 2017 Accreditation in Public Relations Mini-Jump Start Introductory Course will be held at SmithGroup JJR at 1700 New York Avenue, NW, Suite 100 in Washington, DC 20006. Don’t miss this great opportunity to start your APR credentialing!
As always, I look forward to meeting all of you at an upcoming PRSA-NCC event!
Laura Bynum, M.A.
