Washington, D.C. – Oct. 13, 2017 – Last night, more than 180 industry professionals attended the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America‘s 49th annual Thoth Awards Gala at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The event honored the industry’s top programs, products and campaigns in the nation’s capital region.
The CDC and Hager Sharp received the Thoth Best of Show award for their HPV Vaccine is Cancer Prevention campaign. The campaign increased the quality of clinicians’ HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccination recommendation for children 11–12 to ultimately increase vaccine uptake. The HPV vaccine can prevent more than 90 percent of HPV-related cancers from ever developing. The campaign utilized research, message and materials development, partnerships, paid media and evaluation to generate exposure across targeted channels and increase recommendation quality.

The PRSA-NCC awards are named after Thoth (pronounced “tot”), an Egyptian god of wisdom who was a mediator and scribe and credited as the inventor of communications and writing. In the spirit of Thoth, PRSA-NCC honors area PR professionals for their wisdom and contributions to the profession.
