December 2018 President’s Message by Sabrina Kidwai

December 17, 2018

Dear PRSA-NCC members:

For the past 17 months I’ve had the opportunity to lead the chapter. Thank you all for giving me this opportunity. Looking back at the past year, I’ve learned a lot about myself, including how to be a stronger leader and practicing patience. Starting in January, Stacy Hope will be president, and she will do a fantastic job. Throughout this year, I’ve seen her lead successful projects, and she was so helpful in providing advice. I can’t wait to see her lead the chapter next year.

December is always busy, but it’s really important that we all take a few minutes for ourselves. We need to take time to reflect on the past year and look forward to what we want to accomplish in 2019.

I want to encourage members to consider a couple of things as we start next year.

  • What do you want to accomplish personally and professionally in 2019?
  • How can the chapter help you advance your career goals and build your network/community?
  • Consider volunteering for PRSA-NCC. It’s so important to give back because it provides you with the ability to advance your career, enhance your leadership skills, and form long-lasting friendships.

On January 17, we are going to have our annual holiday party at the City Club. The event provides the community to come together and recognize the 2018 Volunteer Leaders. It’s always a great event, and I encourage you to attend. We are also giving back to our Pro Bono client, too.

When I joined PRSA-NCC 12 years ago, I started as a volunteer for the New Professionals committee. I wanted to give back to my profession and advance my career. Not only have I learned a great deal, which I’ve applied in my jobs, but I built a network of friends who have been there for me professionally and personally. That ROI is hard to quantify.

When I interviewed for my new job, one of the reasons why I got it was due to my involvement with the chapter. It’s so important for all of us to think about how can the chapter help you advance your goals.

Need help navigating the chapter? Reach out to any board member and we are happy to help you. We want you to get the most out of your membership.

Thank you all again for a great year! Wishing you all the best in 2019!
