Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Communications and Commitment

Our profession and our culture seem to be at a real moment of reflection – and hopefully growing action – with respect to embracing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion into internal and external organizational culture. But how do we as communicators counsel our clients and our organizations on expanding DEI with genuine authenticity and not superficial spin? Sarah Anderson will discuss common barriers and not-so-common solutions that companies, agencies, and organizations are implementing to align these priorities with their missions. She'll discuss how some organizations define success, and share tips for breaking down DEI goals into practical action steps.

About the Speaker

Sarah L. Anderson is Senior Manager of Tree Equity Programs at American Forests. Her work focuses on equipping urban forestry stakeholders to build and retain a diverse, qualified, and representative workforce. Previously, she founded and ran Lillie Leaf Solutions, LLC, a consulting firm that helps national urban greening stakeholders to develop new ways of addressing equity, access, inclusion, and justice in their work. Sarah's experience includes developing and administering national programs, managing constituent engagement for associations, and facilitating local and national professional development events.
