Hi PRSA-NCC members and those interested! The chapter is ramping up our activities for the summer and into the fall. I’m happy to say that our board of directors and committee chairs are doing a great job working on the events, workshops, activities for members and others interested in these topics.
After the large number of May events, the chapter will provide you all with great professional development, happy hours and workshops for your participation and professional benefit in June. Some of those that the chapter will provide include the “13 Worst Mistakes in Drafting a News Release” event that will take place on June 14 at Ruth Chris in Vienna, Virginia, and on June 20 the Association and Nonprofit Rooftop Happy Hour begins at 5:30 p.m. will take place at Fifth Estate Communications at 1436 U Street, NW in Washington, D.C. These events also include the June 21 event at the Navy Memorial about “Building Media Relationships” featuring a full panel and our own Aaron Ellis from the Professional Development Committee serving as moderator.
On August 2 a special event has been planned by Past President Mitch Marovitz, Ph.D. who will be moderator of the Thought Leadership event titled “Beyond Fake News–The roles and responsibilities of Communications Professionals,” which also features a full panel of DC area senior communications experts. Make sure you sign up for this event, which will be at the National Press Club, as it may sell out.
The chapter has added more videos to the front page of the chapter’s home page, so be sure to explore and find all the wonderful inspiration from the members each month. This month will feature PRSA-NCC Vice President Lauren Lawson-Zilai of Goodwill Industries.
There is now a new video on the web page about “How to Submit for a Thoth Award” by Danny Selnick, from Businesswire and also a PRSA-NCC Vice President, who explains how to submit your greatest project for a possible Thoth Award. There is also a new blog on the topic by Susan Matthews Apgood at: https://theprsanccblog.com/2017/06/07/thoth-award-submissions-now-available-online-d-c-s-most-prestigious-pr-awards/.
The early bird deadline this year is June 30, so please take a look and get your entry submitted! This year’s Thoth Awards will be on October 12, so be sure to put a placeholder in your calendar to attend as well.
Enjoy the beginning of summer and don’t forget fall is right around the corner! As always, I look forward to meeting all of you at an upcoming PRSA-NCC event.
