June 2018 President’s Message by Sabrina Kidwai

June 9, 2018

Dear PRSA-NCC members:

When I was a kid, summer was my favorite time of the year. Swimming at the pool, beach time with family and friends, and enjoying some watermelon, boiled peanuts, and sweet ice tea. Now, as an adult, this time of year has different responsibilities. I’m still enjoying time at the pool and the lake, but it’s the busiest time of year for me with work and PRSA.

As a board, we are working on some strategic initiatives and need your help and participation. Our membership survey is coming out this summer, and we want to hear from you. What do you find valuable? What can we be doing better as a chapter? Every two years, we conduct the survey, so we can hear from you and learn how we can improve.

In July, we are sending out an RFP to all members and sponsors in order to create a robust speakers bureau for the chapter. The board and committee chairs want to diversify our speaker pool and tap into the great talent that’s within our membership. If you want to submit your name or someone else, please fill out the RFP when it comes out in a few weeks.

One of my responsibilities is putting together a board slate for 2019 this summer. Call for nominations goes out in August, but this is the perfect time to recruit members to think about applying for the board. We’ll have two VP slots, two-year and one-year terms, and secretary and treasurer roles available.

Being part of the board has been invaluable for me in so many ways. I’m gaining leadership and communication skills, experience in leading more than 45 volunteer leaders (board and committee chairs), and strategic planning for the chapter.

One of the main reasons why I decided to be president is I wanted to give back to the profession. The people I meet are fantastic, and it’s so rewarding. I learn new ideas I take back to ASAE. The skills I’m gaining as president is so valuable because it’s giving me experience that I will use as a CEO one day.

If you want to gain new skills outside of your day job, I strongly encourage you to volunteer for the chapter. Please reach out to me if you want to learn more about running for the board, membership survey, or RFP for speakers.

Sincerely,

Sabrina Kidwai
