Dear PRSA-NCC Members,
Happy New Year! 2015 promises to be a great one, and I feel so privileged to serve as your president this year. I look forward to meeting new faces and working alongside current and new volunteers to bring you the value and service you deserve from our vibrant chapter.
Under the steady and strong leadership of our 2014 President, Rebecca Andersen, APR, we finished the year in great shape. We successfully hosted the International Conference, increased chapter membership by 9.5%, increased cash reserves by 10% and executed 49 professional development and networking events - almost one per week! My sincere thanks to Rebecca, our 2014 chapter board and committee leaders, and the many committee members who spent countless hours organizing our various chapter activities.
We have a lot of events and activities planned in 2015. Please visit our events page regularly to keep up-to-date on chapter activities so you don't miss the ones that matter to you most. Here are a few to mark on your calendar.
This month, IPRA holds its first working lunch of the year on January 8. The PD committee hosts its first professional development session on January 21 and the Accreditation Committee hosts its first Mini-Jump Start session for the APR on January 30. PRSA has reinforced its commitment to the credential. If you've been thinking about going after your APR, now is a good time to get started.
February is also shaping up to be a busy month. For example, the Annual Leadership Rally, which is a free event for our members, will be held on February 5 at Pepco's Edison Place Gallery from 6 - 8 p.m.
The rally is a chance for you to meet the chapter's leadership team and to get involved. We know that members who engage with a committee derive more value from their PRSA membership than those that don't. They tend to reap the many rewards of having a larger professional network whether for job hunting, for assistance on a project, or for referrals for work (especially if you are a consultant). Serving on a committee also starts your path to Chapter leadership and through the process, nourishes your professional path to leadership. So, please consider joining us on February 5.
This year, we will conduct our bi-annual member survey. We are also developing a thought-leadership program that will stimulate discussion and advance the profession in the NCC area. Let me know if you'd like to help out.
So, start your new year by attending a January event and the Leadership Rally in February. So, start your new year by attending a January event and the Leadership Rally in February. Experience first hand the vibrancy of our Chapter. Get involved: I promise you a fantastic network of professionals and friends if you do.
I hope to meet many of you at our upcoming activities. Until then, have a fantastic start to 2015.
